Woman loses handbag in uMhlanga smash-and-grab
Durban North SAPS appeals to motorists not to leave goods lying on the seats of their cars.
A LOCAL resident fell victim to yet another smash-and-grab on the N2/M41 interchange near Gateway on Monday. The incident occurred at about 7.50pm. While there has not been a spike in incidents, police have warned motorists to be especially vigilant at the interchange (coming off the N2 heading towards Gateway).
Five cases have been reported since December, while there were 15 smash-and-grabs (Northglen News reported on in the same area) last year.
The off-ramp which is currently under construction, has provided easy access and a handy getaway for the thieves.
“Statistically, the thieves target mainly female motorists. In this case the woman had left her handbag on the passenger seat, she remembers hearing a loud bang and realised her handbag with her iPhone had been taken,” Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the Durban North SAPS said.
“We are again appealing to motorists not to leave goods lying on the seats of their cars and to be extremely vigilant when driving through the area. Car floors and seats are not good places to leave items,” he warned
