Umhlanga KFC closes its doors

The Gatemax KFC branch closed its doors on Friday after another video went viral.

FOLLOWING the latest video scandal involving an uMhlanga Ridge Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) store, the outlet closed its doors on Friday.

Local media reported that the Gatemax branch near Coastland Hotel have stayed ‘temporarily closed’ after load shedding initially forced its closure.

The video which shows somebody, who looks to be an employee, sharpening a knife at the KFC outlet situated on the upper end of Umhlanga Rocks Drive has since gone viral.

While some members of the community expressed outrage others felt that posting the video was unnecessary and sensational.

Initially the clip was thought to have been filmed by Ashrana Chanderanberg, but she has since denied this.

On the Facebook Page, Durban Restaurants – The good, the bad and the nastyyyy!, where the video was originally uploaded she said, “I wish to set the record straight in so far as any impression that may have been created that I recorded the video. I am not a resident of Ridgeton Towers nor Horizon View and in fact reside in Phoenix. I did not witness or film the incident referred to in the video. The video was recorded by the manager of Ridgeton Towers Imraan Mohamed . His cell phone did not have internet connection and he asked me to post the video and caption for him.”

Doug Smart, managing director of KFC Africa, reportedly told media that they would be conducting a thorough investigation at the store.

When the Northglen News once again tried to make contact with the outlet today the phone simply rang.

This follows community outrage from a video showing staff members from the KFC Braamfontein branch washing chicken on the concrete floor with a hose.
