Riot police put a dampener on Durban anti-xenophobia march [VIDEO]

Anti-xenophobia march washed out by police water cannons.

An anti-xenophobia march was almost washed out before it began when police doused protesters  with water cannons in Durban this morning.

The march was organised by a coalition of several groups representing foreign nationals in the city following spates of xenophobic violence in the past week.

Facebook updates warned that the march was set to take place today.

The Mercury also reported on Tuesday that victims of xenophobic attacks who were being housed in a camp at Isipingo Beach, had all been alerted and that foreigners living in Durban had been warned of attacks on all foreigners on Wednesday.
