Crusaders win sixth successive title

Crusaders show their class to win yet another premier league cricket title.

THE Hollywoodbets.net Crusaders cricket team romped home to their sixth successive premier league win recently. The ‘Good Guys’, as they are known in cricketing club circles, also secured their eighth title in 10 years. What’s more, in the last 54 games, the team has only lost seven times.

Mike Alexander, a middle order batsman for the team, finished the league as the highest run scorer with 590, which included two centuries and two fifties. This was backed up in the bowling department, with Kyle Simmons finishing with 42 wickets.

The first team’s triumph was matched by the Crusaders’ second and third teams, who also won their respective leagues.

Captain of the squad, Rob Clift, was thrilled with his charges and said the team spirit throughout the league was excellent.

“The boys were fantastic again this year. We’ve been playing together for so long that I feel invariably we have no weak links. Everybody knows their role and we have a good balance in the team. The team spirit was phenomenal and everybody chipped in, and we had a sensational bowling attack, led by Kyle (Simmons). That’s not taking anything away from our batsman, who carried the team through the season,” he said.

As a captain, this was Clift’s third season leading the squad. The former Northwood School pupil has now set his sights on the National Club Champs, set to take place in Pretoria later this month.

“The national champs is an extremely tough competition, bringing together the best teams from around the country. To win six games in six days is a different challenge. So we’d love to lift the trophy, but we are under no illusions about the task that lies ahead,” said Clift.

Top run scorer in the league, Mike Alexander, also praised his team’s efforts.

“This is a personal standout in my cricketing career, but it was a team effort. We want to make a statement at the league and we did that. Now we just have to carry our form into the club champs,” Alexander said.
