Tasnim secures her own future

When the determined matric pupil queried her options at the beginning of last year she discovered that there was no package that offered one of her chosen subjects, so she opted to study it own her own.

MANY 2014 matric pupils did exceptionally well during the course of the year, but one of the pupils that stood out was Northlands Girls’ High School pupil, Tasnim Amra.

The matriculant, who earned eight distinctions, was humble when she told the Northglen News about her exceptional achievements. Amra wanted to take accounting as an additional subject, but when the determined pupil queried her options at the beginning of last year she discovered that there was no package that offered that subject, so she opted to study it own her own.

“The school provided the textbooks, but there were no official classes. My teachers provided some assistance when I had questions, but I essentially had to teach myself,” she said.

When asked what advice she would give to this year’s matrics she said that the pupils should not be afraid of hard work, and that they should do their best to keep up with the syllabus.

“Make sure that you understand the work, and if you don’t understand ensure that you ask your teachers or find other resources that will help you understand. The worst mistake that you could make is to procrastinate and fall behind,” she said.

In addition to her academic work Amra also competed in a few tournaments as a South African chess player.
