Myth Busted: Sugar does not make your kids hyperactive

It's still pretty bad for them though.

It’s almost become common sense that sugar is the main culprit in unleashing a torrent of hyperactivity in most children. And anyone who’s spent time looking after the kids would probably attest to this. Shows you just how wrong common sense can be.

According to an report on Big Think, the myth of the ‘sugar high’ is one that remains pretty commonplace, despite the fact has been debunked by scientists years ago.

The article quotes a study that appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association, which found that:

“…when children, parents and researchers were blinded as to whether or not children were actually given sugar, all effects of sugar on behaviour or cognitive performance disappeared.”

But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t any risks associated with eating high amounts of sugar.  The article goes on to stress that sugar can still be bad for you:

“Too much sugar will still rot your teeth and make you obese (which is a known risk factor for Type 2 diabetes).”
