Sting operation leads to dramatic drug bust

The Greenwood Park SAPS managed to arrest a drug dealer in Quarry Heights last week.

THE Greenwood Park police recently made a breakthrough in the constant battle against drugs when they arrested a 32-year old woman believed to be a drug peddler.

The Crime Prevention Team received information regarding a drug dealer that was allegedly operating in the Quarry Heights area. Police subsequently organised a sting operation and her arrest happened just as one would expect in the dramatic Hollywood films.

One of the officers posed as a buyer and immediately after the transaction was completed the police swooped down on her home, and arrested her.

During the raid police recovered a substantial amount of money, but could only tie the woman to the three heroin straws that she had sold to the undercover policeman.

The dealer’s brother (21) was also arrested, after he was found to be in possession of an illegal firearm. The gun will be sent to ballistics to determine if it was used in any other crimes.

W/O Lutchman Singh, acting communications officer of Greenwood Park SAPS, confirmed that the woman and her brother have been respectively charged with dealing drugs and the unlawful possession of a firearm. They are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.

According to Singh drug dealing is sporadic in the Greenwood Park district, and is prevalent across the country. “We have has isolated cases, but investigate as soon as we become aware of any dealings in the area,” he said.
