What’s up with WhatsApp’s new blue ticks?

The two grey ticks will still appear in private chats, and will turn blue when the message has been read.

IF you’re a WhatsApp user you should see a small change to the app. Last Thursday it was announced the app will now light up its double-check ticks blue when a message has been read. Up until now many users incorrectly thought the double check indicated a message had been seen. It actually meant that the message had been received by the handset, not read by the recipient.

The new update is garnering mixed reactions with some users being ticked off; while others are jubilant saying that there is now no way of denying you had seen a messages with excuses like “I read it late” or “just saw your message”.

And clicking on the message will show you the precise time the recipient opened and read it. Alternatively, you can highlight the message and access the message info screen, detailing the times when the message was received, read or played.

Other messaging services already have similar types of notifications to show when someone has seen a message, like Facebook.
