Get festive for a cause

Get ready for some exciting Christmas inspiration at the annual Christmas Fair Fund.


THE festive season is slowly approaching, and while many people preparing to celebrate their holidays with family and friends, others have taken the initiative to help people who are less fortunate.

This year, La Lucia resident, Joani Mitchell, will be providing some assistance to the dozens of selfless women who manage the Christmas Fair Fund.

Mitchell, a top ten Masterchef South Africa contestant (Season 2), will be presenting two Christmas cooking and styling demonstrations at the a Christmas Fair Fund’s 62nd annual Country Fair on 29 and 30 October.

“I am thrilled to be able to be associated with the project. It is a privilege to not only share my passion with others, but also to use my passion to help others,” she said.

“I have always been a foodie, as I grew up with food. My mother is an amazing chef, and I have learned a lot from her. It is incredibly rewarding, and it feeds my soul,” she added.

The zealous chef has been spotted presenting at prominent events, such as Decorex, the Good Food and Wine Show as well as the Taste of Durban.

Every penny of the event will be funnelled towards the 22 community projects of the Christmas Fair Fund, said Michelle Blake, the Christmas Fair Fund’s chairlady.

In addition to the cooking demos, shoppers will also be exposed to Christmas inspirations from more than 80 stalls. Guest can buy buy unique and unusual gifts, while supporting local entrepreneurs and underprivileged communities.

The fair will be hosted at the Collisheen Estate in Ballito. Times are 9am to 6pm on Wednesday, 29 October and 9am to 5pm on Thursday, 30 October.

Bookings for the demos cost R300 per person, and must be made in advance. Entrance to the stalls cost R50 per person, and includes tea or coffee and snacks. Children under 12 get in free.
