Local murder suspect traced to Eastern Cape

Witnesses helped police track down an alleged murderer.

POLICE have recently traced and arrested the alleged murderer of a Parkhill resident, after he fled to the Eastern Cape.
Witnesses have linked the accused to the brutal murder of the 30-year-old man in Malacca Road on Saturday, 6 September at approximately 1am.

“It was reported that several people were gambling in a house at the Malacca Informal Settlement when the suspect and the deceased began arguing. The argument eventually escalated into an altercation and the men began throwing bottles at each other. At one point the victim fled and the suspect allegedly pursued him,”  said Lt Elvis Naidoo, Greenwood Park SAPS spokesman.

The witnesses who followed the two men where horrified when they found the victim lying in a pool of blood – crying in agony. He had sustained multiple savage stab wounds across his chest.

One of the witnesses covered the wounds with his hands, in a frantic attempt to stop the bleeding, but his efforts were in vain. Paramedics later pronounced the man dead at the scene. The suspect had fled the scene.

Residents and witnesses helped the Greenwood Park SAPS track the suspect to the Eastern Cape, where he was allegedly hiding.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 12 September.
