14-year-old and accomplice steal R20k from Gateway store (in pictures)

Duo stake out tobacconist shop before stealing R20 000 in cash.

CCTV VIDEO footage has captured the shocking moment a teenage girl stole R20 000 from behind the counter from a shop in Gateway as her uncle, acting as an accomplice, used techniques to distract the sales assistant.

Durban North SAPS has now appealed to the public to help identify the duo, one of whom is believed to be only 14 years old.

The robbery took place at Zoggy’s tobacconist more than two weeks ago and video surveillance shows the man believed to be the teenager’s uncle, enquire about a number of products in the store. The dutiful clerk climbs up and down ladders to bring various items to him. He then motions to the youngster who calmly goes on all fours at one point in the video and rifles surreptitiously through drawers, all the while searching for where the money is kept.

In just 26 minutes, the duo enter and leave the store nonchalantly while the clerk unaware of the robbery continues serving customers. If you have any information regarding the duo contact Detective Vis Moodley on 083 660 8111.

  3. As wrong as this is… am I the only one who thinks that it will teach the counter clerk lesson for serving minors? Zoggy’s is a tabacconist and shouldn’t be serving minors at all.
