Warren has the gift of the gab

NGN talks to the Northwood School Circle of Valor winner of the sport award.

HIS quirky commentary and colourful metaphors are what sets Warren Brosnihan apart from his fellow SuperSport commentator. Sports fans around South Africa have enjoyed his on air antics since 2007 but had he not chosen a career in rugby, his life path may have been radically altered.

The 42-year-old studied to be a chiropractor but left in his fourth year after being offered a Rugby League contract in Australia. This was his first professional contract and it would prove to be an inspired decision as Brosnihan went on to represent the Springboks, The Sharks, Blue Bulls, Ulster and Calvisano in Italy.

“Representing my country was always a childhood dream of mine. Winning the Currie Cup and being able to play professional rugby and live for a while in Australia, the UK and Italy is the pinnacle of any sports star’s career. Sports aside another highlight of my career is being married to my wife Nicola and we have two lovely children Jaz (9) and Ty (5).

The former bok forward has been chosen as this year’s Circle of Valour sport award winner. “This is a great honour,” enthused the former headboy of Northlands Boys’ (Northwood). “I’m proud of my school and exceptionally proud to be recognised in this manner. It is completely unexpected and I’m very grateful.”

Brosnihan is now the vice president of sales for GNLD International (a global health and wellness company).
