Editor – THESE two guinea pigs and hamster were found abandoned on the front verge of a house in Glenashley at 8.30am on Tuesday evening last week. They were sitting in the open enduring an icey wind with no covers over them and could have been outside for anything from a few minutes to two hours.

An attempt was made to contact the neighbours but to no avail. Thanks go to Ashburne Vet and three kind families who said they would take them if a home was not found.

Another friend has stepped up to the plate and eagerly adopted all three. She has a lovely, safe, enclosed garden where the guinea pigs will have more freedom, and certainly more care, than they received last Tuesday. If you are going to sign up to buy a pet it is a lifetime commitment of responsibility.

If for some reason you are no longer able to care for them then make the effort to find such defenseless animals a home with someone else that actually wants them. Do not take the easy way out by literally tossing them to the curb.
