Durban North residents heard muffled shot, screams then silence

The woman who was fatally shot, allegedly by her boyfriend, last night has been identified.

THE woman who was shot at 10.30pm last night in Terence Place, Durban North has been identified by Greenwood Park SAPS as 32-year-old mother of one, Rosemary Bell, the owner of the house.

A Terence Road resident, who did not want to be named, said he heard a muffled shot at about 10.15pm last night, followed by three ‘blood curdling screams’ and added there was silence afterwards.

“I thought that they had dropped something that hurt her, but when at least 10 Metro Police cars and an ambulance arrived at the scene I knew it must have been a gunshot I heard,” the resident said. It is unclear whether the couple had an argument before the shooting.

Northglen News source said Greenwood Park SAPS vehicles only arrived at the scene after midnight, adding that when the SAPS control room could not get hold of any officers at the station, they contacted officers from the Durban North and Newlands SAPS who responded to the call.

Police have not named the man who was arrested in connection with Bell’s murder but it is believed that he is a Metro Police cop.

He is currently being held in the Greenwood Park SAPS cells.
