Gushing water turns out to be false alarm

NORTHGLEN News was contacted by several concerned residents last week over the clear water gushing out of the stormwater pipe at Granny’s Pool on uMhlanga’s main beach. The steady flow of water had gone on for almost five days.

One resident said she thought the steady flow was a shocking waste by the municipality who did not respond to her calls for investigation. Luckily though, the water was found to be water flowing from a construction site.

According to De Wet Geldenhuis, from the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), the water not drinking water from a municipal pipe.

“It’s water flowing from an underground water source (possibly a river) which was opened up as a result of excavation on the Pearls development site. This water is being pumped out of the site from underground source into the storm water pipe that outflows onto the beach at Life Savers Club (Granny’s Pool),” Geldenhuis said.

He also confirmed the eThekwini Municipality’s stormwater department had also been to the site to investigate.
