Male domestic worker makes off with R850 000

Domestic dishonesty costs local employer thousands of dollars.

DURBAN North SAPS are searching for a male domestic worker who made off with $75 000 (R850 000) in cash from his Somerset Park employer.

“The resident had withdrawn $75 000 in cash from Forex for an overseas trip. Two days later however, the money and the male domestic worker, had disappeared. We have a description of the man and are now looking for him,” Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station explained.

He added it was vital for residents to do reference checks before employing anybody.

“Reference checks are the most commonly-used tool for screening. Most domestic workers and gardeners have references and it is a critical component of the hiring process,” he said.
