Green Mamba found in uMhlanga retirement village
Jason Arnold rescues snake found in retirment village electric box.
WHILE most residents would flee at the sight of a 1.5 meter long Green Mamba, the residents of Twilanga Retirement Village were quite captivated and fascinated by the male serpent visitor. Local snake man Jason Arnold got the call at about 1pm today (28 May) to the uMhlanga retirement home and found the serpent coiled up in an electric box.
“Typically mambas are quite active between 11am and 1pm. When I received the call today, the retiree described the snake as green and fairly big and judging by the description I knew it was Green Mamba. When I drove out to Twilanga, one of her neighbours showed me where he had last seen the snake. I saw the electric box as we were searching the garages and thought if I were a snake that box would be the perfect hiding spot.
“Sure enough he had coiled himself up right at the top of the box. I eventually popped the cover off and rescued him. All the residents who had gathered to watch me capture the snake were in awe of it and were saying how wonderful nature was,” he smiled.
Arnold also captured two Black Mambas in Verulam and Mt Vernon, two brown house snakes in uMhlanga and La Lucia, as well as a red lipped herald snake in Pinetown. Contact Jason Arnold on 082 745 6375.
