South African Pony Club riders triumph in Zambia
Proud moment for the South African Pony Club as it was their first international win and outing in a number of years.
MEMBERS of the Mt Edgecombe branch of the South African Pony Club, Chelsey Carlilse and Kyle Trollip were part of a team that represented South Africa at the Zambian Pony Club International show recently held at Kiara Farm 20km south of Lusaka.
The riders were selected from three regions of the Pony Club throughout South Africa, with the final riders selected from KZN, Gauteng, Limpopo and the Western Cape regions. All the riders competed on loaned horses and took part in team dressage and show jumping as well as individual speed classes and arena eventing. The event was hotly contested with riders from as far north as the Copper Belt and a team from Zimbabwe.
The competition kicked off with the dressage competition and team South Africa placed second overall behind Zimbabwe. Kyle Trollip placed third individually on ‘Panorama’.
There was plenty of action in the speed classes and the arena eventing and on the final day of the competition, team SA managed to bag silver.
The team were slightly tense as they needed clear rounds to beat Zimbabwe, however they held together and went through to second place behind Team Zambia in the team show-jumping.
In the overall team placing South Africa came out tops in first place beating Zimbabwe and Zambia. This was a proud moment for the South African Pony Club as it was their first international outing in number of years
