Rescued dog mauled to death

Two Pitbulls Terriers and a Rottweiler killed a rescued dog in Durban North, leaving the owners of the dog in shock.

A DURBAN North family is still reeling from shock after their beloved dog, Bob, was mauled to death by their neighbour’s two Pitbull Terriers and Rottweiler. Bob, a Collie cross German Shepherd, was killed on Monday morning in a vicious attack that the von Buddenbrocks said lasted a terrifying 30 minutes.

“On Monday morning, 12 May, our beautiful, Bob, was mauled to death by our neighbour’s two Pitbulls and Rottweiler who broke through our boundary fence.”

Michele von Buddenbrock said her daughter Amy, her mother-in-law, Gillian and  their domestic worker, Kansile, were unable to pry the dogs off Bob who had been rescued from Ashburne Veterinary Clinic in Glenashley some years back.

“They tried everything they could do to save our poor dog but the dogs were intent on killing. They are all traumatised by what they witnessed,” a grief-stricken Michele said this morning.

She added that even after Bob had been killed, the trio continued to maul Bob for a further 20 minutes. “In our home dogs are part of the family and we are all devastated with how our loving, docile pet met his end. ”

Michele added that hours after the attack the two Pitbull terriers and Rottweiler still roamed their yard.

The von Buddenbrocks said their other two rescued dogs escaped with their lives after they managed to get them inside the house.

The family have appealed to all owners of large, potentially vicious animals to take responsibility for their dogs and to ensure that they are safely enclosed inside their premises. “Our poor dog was killed in his own garden,” Michele said.
