Policemen allegedly linked to Durban North armed robberies

Police remain tight-lipped over the alleged involvement of two police officers in a spate of robberies that rocked Durban North yesterday.

FOUR men, two of whom are allegedly police officers, have been arrested after a high speed chase on the N2 freeway which ended in a crash on Queen Nandi Drive.

The vehicle, a silver Mercedes Benz thought to be fitted with a false registration plate, is believed to be the same vehicle used in three house break-ins and an attempted house robbery in Durban North yesterday.

A reliable source told the Northglen News that the suspects had just robbed a house in Isipingo, south of Durban, when they were spotted by a SAPS officers in a patrol vehicle.

A high speed chase involving the SAPS, the Durban K9 Unit and the Metro Police ensued across 28km of freeway before the suspects lost control of the luxury vehicle and crashed into a barrier on the Queen Nandi Drive offramp.

It’s believed the suspects were heading for KwaMashu. Police found a rifle magazine and a police radio.

KwaZulu-Natal SAPS spokesman, Jay Naicker was not availabe for comment regarding the alleged involvement of police officers.
