Bare your sole for charity

Support a 'sole'ful cause for charity this weekend.

EMOTIONAL fatigue faced by many can be debilitating and sometimes lead people to believe that they cannot make a difference in the lives of others. However, that chain of thought can change according to comedian and uMhlanga resident Aaron McIlroy.

Northglen News caught up with the comedic genius recently to speak about a local NGO, which is hoping to celebrate the annual ‘One Day without Shoes’ campaign.

With an estimated seven million children living without shoes around the country, Grace Aid is attempting to break that cycle in two ways.

The first by entering the Guinness World Record for the biggest number of barefoot runners in a 100m race and by asking competitors to donate new pairs of shoes for charity.

“This is our opportunity to show that Durban isn’t laid back. I first heard about the issue at a global leadership summit. The guy I spoke to was from Toms Shoes, a NPO based in California, and he enlightened me about how many of South Africa’s children walked to school everyday without shoes and the dangers they faced.

“I’ve been spreading the word in the hope of motivating people to give back to a worthy cause. Sure, you may not be able to see the direct results of your charity but a pair of shoes will make a difference.”
