Code of Ethics for digital professionals

Durban Digital Day will launch the Durban chapter of a Digital Professionals Organisation.

After a fortnight of headlines about misuse of public funds in running a digital campaign fraught with problems to promote Durban, many agree things cannot continue unchecked.

Consequently Durban Digital Day, an online community of people involved in the digital sphere is launching the Digital Professionals Organisation – Durban Chapter, to create an industry body to promote certain ideals for digital professionals, including an ethical business practise, skills development and training, duty to the profession, public interest, and tender regulations and skills criteria.

In addition, there is a plan to decide on industry acceptable practise, development of best practise principals, professional competence and integrity, and the formation of a code of ethics.

Durban Digital Day has invited all agencies, professionals and institutions sharing their ethics and passion to join their movement.

They will host an AGM, and will elect a committee of professionals and interested parties who will help to create the principals needed to prevent the sort of scandal that has created a bad taste in the mouth of many digital professionals who love Durban.

The next meeting is to be held on 2 April, at TBWAHunt Lascaris Durban Auditorium, Essex Terrace, Westville. People wanting to put their names forward as candidates for the committee can do so, before 31 March 2014, by contacting jonathan@digitaldinner.co.za.
