Gun wielding hijacker nabbed

A hijacker was arrested by local security officers moments after an attempted hijacking on Umhlanga Rocks Drive and another shootout in Glen Hills later on.

A WOULD-BE hijacker and attempted murderer was nabbed by local security officers on the weekend in Glen Hills.

According to Marshall Security the man was involved in two incidents, one at the intersections of Umhlanga Rocks Drive and Longwoods Drive in Glen Hills and the other behind Rinaldo Road Service Station. In a statement Marshall security said they received the first call at around 8pm on Saturday night.
“The suspect was a man wearing a red striped golf shirt with khaki pants. Our officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. We searched the area but were unable to find anyone fitting the description,” said Marhsall Security’s Tyron Powell.

He added that minutes after the first call out reports of a shooting at Rinaldo Centre was reported. When the security officers arrived at the scene they found that a man, an alleged victim of the fleeing hijacker  had been shot in his head. “The SAPS Dog Unit proceeded to search the bush,” Powell said. He added that they believed that the man, after failing to hijack somebody at the intersection made a getaway and shot somebody in the process in Rinaldo Road. The suspect was found with .38 Special revolver with spent cartridges in his pocket.

He was taken into custody by the Greenwood Park Police.
