Greenwood Park police arrest Tupperware thief

Greenwood Park SAPS arrested a man for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

WHEN members of the Greenwood Park Police’s got wind that a woman from the Thandalani Informal Settlement was in possession of a stolen consignment of the popular home product Tupperware, they immediately stepped into action.

The station’s spokesman, Lt Elvis Naidoo, said they received a tip-off from an informant that a woman was selling genuine Tupperware goods from her shack. The Crime Prevention Unit headed to the sprawling shack settlement and swooped on the house. According to Naidoo the woman worked as a cleaner at a Tupperware manufacturing company in Pinetown.

He said her employer confirmed that she had not returned to work since police raided her home. “When we arrived at the shack we found it to be full of the plasticware. The woman’s husband was home at the time and told us his wife used the plastic ware for demonstrations and sold it,” Lt Naidoo said.

The woman’s husband was charged with possession of stolen property and appeared in court last week. Police could not trace his wife.
“We are putting a lot of focus on crime hotspots and secondhand dealers due to an increase in robberies, house breakings and business robberies and breakings. We’ve recovered stolen goods, such as computers and office equipment, as far as Mahatma Gandhi (former Point) Road,” he said.
He warned residents not to buy goods without following up whether it is stolen property or not.
“If a person is caught being in possession of stolen goods, they too will be charged in terms of Section 36 of the Criminal Procedure Act. If you can’t prove ownership, you will be arrested and charged.
“You could have blood on your hands without knowing it as the person who stole the goods could possibly have killed someone to get it,” Lt Naidoo said.
