Road rage incident leads to broken windscreen

SAPS urges motorists not to react to provocation and cool emotional temperature on the roads.

DURBAN North SAPS has warned motorists against driving aggressively and to beware of other aggressive drivers. This comes after two incidents of road rage in the North.

According to Lt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, the first incident occurred on uMhlanga Rocks Drive at about 8.30am.

“A local resident had stopped to let some passengers off and the driver behind him hooted at him in anger. He was then followed and had stopped at a traffic circle. The aggravated driver behind him got out of his vehicle and smashed the back windscreen in and drove off,” he said.

The second incident occurred on the M4 between the Riverside turn-off.

“In this incident, a motorist was driving in the fast lane when the aggressive driver pulled alongside him and shouted and asked why he was driving so slowly. Eventually the motorist moved over and the aggressive driver again pulled alongside him and pointed a firearm at him,” he said.

This is the ninth incident this year alone.

“These are serious offenses and I urge drivers not to react to provocation and to stay away from erratic drivers. As motorists we all have a responsibility and numerous opportunities to cool the emotional temperature on the roads,” he said.

Deokaran asked motorists to report erratic or aggressive drivers to the Durban North SAPS station on 031 560 8004.
