More speeding traffic problems

This road is increasingly being used by busses and taxis as well as motorists who do not wish to use what could be a more direct route for them, to get up onto the ridge.

EDITOR – While I am very happy that the end is in sight for the residents of Chartwell Drive, there is another situation that to my mind is also in desperate need of the councils attention.

Addison Drive links the lower La Lucia area with uMhlanga Rocks Drive. In fact, it is a direct feeder route from Sunningdale, Glen Anil, Glen Hills and surrounds with the La Lucia Mall and the M4 motor way.

This road is increasingly being used by busses and taxis as well as motorists who do not wish to use what could be a more direct route for them, to get up onto the ridge: Marion Avenue, Gainsford, Shelbourne/Armstrong and Old Bush roads all have speed humps, with the result that a very heavy traffic load is diverted and directed up and down Addison Drive.

What is even more concerning is that as these motorists whizz up and down Addison Drive (at anything between 80 and 100 kmph) pedestrians cling to life on the verges of the Addison Drive residents.

This brings me to my second point. I note that the council has prioritised a side–walk on a small section of William Campbell Drive. While I am sure that this is necessary, how much more urgent is it that a side-walk be constructed on Addison Drive, where he entire length of this busy road has no facilities whatsoever for the many pedestrians who use it to get to and from work?

A discussion for another day is the lack of traffic lights at the uMhlanga Rocks/Addison Drive intersection.
