Complex entrance takes a bow

Izinga Ridge's Iduli Close entrance collapses, injuring two people.

RESIDENTS of Iduli Close in Izinga Ridge, uMhlanga, were a little surprised to return to their complex on the evening of Monday 21 October to find a collapsed entrance.

Nankhoo and Associates, the complex’s engineering company, said a meeting was held with the body corporate the same night the entrance collapsed and the company’s Prasnath Nankhoo said all the residents of Iduli Close were notified of the collapsed entrance.

“We are still in the process of investigating whether it was an engineering or construction fault that caused the entrance to collapse,” he said.

Another entrance, constructed exactly the same, across the road has been reinforced with scaffolding for a short-term solution. Nankhoo said another column will be added as soon as possible to reinforce the guarding house and entrance to ensure this entrance doesn’t collapse as well.

It is estimated there is R40 000 worth of damage to the collapsed entrance. Nankhoo said there would be no additional cost to residents to repair the entrance.

It is believed two men sustained minor injuries when the entrance collapsed on Monday.

Nankhoo said the architects, Sagnelli Associate Architects, will re-design the structures soon.
