Henri reflects on fantastic season

Triathlete and Durban North resident, Henri Schoeman, talks about his best season yet.

IT’S been a fantastic year for Durban North triathlete, Henri Scheoman. Not only was he crowned SA and continental champ, but the 21-year-old also finished 14th on the International Triathlon Union world standings. Despite having a bad race in the Elite World Championships in London, the final event of the ITU series, Schoeman said he has no regrets.

“I’m extremely pleased with my performances. There are many things I have learned and experienced that will only make me a better athlete. There are some things that I am going to work hard at and improve on so next year, I can do even better. I am grateful I have had the opportunity to travel the world doing what I love best, and also meeting many great people along the way,” he enthused.

The former Oakridge College pupil said he wanted to finish as close to 10th in the world rankings in his debut year in the ITU series.

“I simply wouldn’t be able to succeed without the support of my sponsors, family and girlfriend. It has been an overwhelming and a humbling experience. I’m looking forward to a good rest in November and then to get back to hard work thereafter,” he said.

Schoeman added this year has been a good setup for Commonwealth Games next year and Olympic (2016) qualification.
