Municipality warns of con-man on the prowl
ETHEKWINI Municipality has sent a warning to residents and service providers to be on the lookout for a con artist who is requesting quotations on behalf of the municipality.
The con man, who goes by the name of George Langeni, contacts service providers for quotations for tenders that are advertised on tsibocreens.com and issues false municipal documents and order numbers. He then requests the service provider to issue an invoice and to pay a 50 per cent deposit to a company called Tsibo Screens.
The City Integrity and Investigations Unit has found that several service providers have been contacted by the conman.
He provides a City Hall address and telephone number, which is linked to the PABX at Florence Mkhize Building.
The municipality is clamping down and is adopting a zero tolerance stance on fraud and corruption and is urging the public to report these incidents to the City Integrity and Investigations Unit.
