Great prizes in acoustic contest

ASPIRING solo acoustic artists stand a chance to win great prizes in the Tradelius Music Group Acoustic Competition taking place at this year's White Mountain Festival.

The competition will kick-off on Friday 20 September, with heats being held every day until the final on Monday 23 September.

Entrants may only register at the festival and must each perform three songs (two original songs plus a cover of a song by a South African artist). They also cannot be signed to a record label or already booked to perform at White Mountain 2013.

And remember, the competition is for solo acoustic artists only. Entrants will be judged on technical ability, vocal ability, song choice, stage presence and crowd response. Two winners from each heat will go through to the finals.

The overall winner will walk off with prizes to the value of R18 000! These include a 60-minute slot at the 25th Splashy Fen Music Festival in 2014, as well as musical equipment courtesy of Tradelius Music Group, comprising a Washburn acoustic guitar and stand, JTS wireless guitar system, Music Nomad Premium Guitar Care System, plus a JTS professional microphone and stand.

The Audio Suite will also sponsor recording time to the value of R3 000, which includes three mixed and mastered acoustic tracks.

Now in its 8th year, the festival is held at White Mountain Lodge near Giant’s Castle in the central Drakensberg and is known for its intimate, relaxed atmosphere, easy access from the N3 and idyllic setting.

Running from 20 to 24 September, the four-day line-up includes the likes of Matthew Mole, Brett Newski (USA), Radio Kalahari Orkes, Nakhane Toure, Margaret’s Daughter, Paige Mac, Gerald Clark, Luna Paige, Stefan Dixon, Lucy Kruger, The Kickstands, Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby & Nick Pitman, Qadasi, Shomon and The Incidentals.

Also not to be missed is acoustic guitar maestro, Steve Newman, collaborating with renowned percussionist, Ashish Joshi.
