Mystery surrounds alleged robbery in Avoca

The victim and the alleged perpetrator told response officers two contradicting stories.

A PASSENGER was allegedly robbed by a driver on Matheran Road, Avoca, in the early hours of Monday morning.

Swift Private Security officers responded to the incident at about 06:00 when the passenger informed them that the driver attempted to steal her personal belongings and then immediately escaped on foot.

“Officers were told that the driver ran towards a dead end after abandoning his vehicle. While officers were still at the scene, the driver and owner of the vehicle arrived,” said Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall.

“The driver claimed there was a disagreement with the passenger, who allegedly assaulted him when they reached their destination. The driver felt threatened when he saw two men approaching the vehicle; he suspected they were going to hijack him, and he immediately fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. At the stage, it is still unclear what transpired,” he added.

Greenwood Park SAPS was called to investigate the incident further.
