Suspect arrested after robbery of Avoca homeowner

The suspect is facing charges of house robbery.

A SUSPECT who robbed an Avoca homeowner of his cellphone was arrested on Saturday (February 17) by members of Marshall Security.

The suspect, who was spotted on Avoca Road, attempted to evade arrest but was successfully apprehended by response officers.

According to company spokesperson Tyron Powell, the incident unfolded at 08:15.

“We were alerted via a panic alarm from a homeowner who informed our control room that an intruder had entered their property, attacked them, stolen their cellphone and escaped on foot. Our officers were dispatched to the scene, and an accurate description of the suspect was circulated.

“One of our officers then spotted the suspect walking on Avoca Road. As soon as the suspect saw the officer, he attempted to flee on foot but after a short foot pursuit, he was apprehended. Upon searching the suspect, the cellphone taken in the house robbery was found in his possession,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS and is facing charges of house robbery.
