Light up pugs’ lives at colourful display in La Lucia

The property is open from 19:00 to 21:30 for viewing.

THERE are plenty of things that make Christmas so magical, and for some people, it’s the thrill of searching and finding houses with beautiful Christmas lights on display.

One such home is in Glendining Court, La Lucia, which is open to the public to view, and you can support Pug Rescue South Africa, too, which rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes pugs in need.

Ravitha Singh and her family are volunteers of the NPO and have four pugs of their own.

“Displaying lights is something that my husband, Sunil, has been doing for a very long time. Last year, we decided to turn it into a fundraiser for Pug Rescue SA where we ask the community to donate food or cash,” she said.

This year is no different, and the lights will stay on until January 1 for families to come though and enjoy.

“We became volunteers after adopting Pablo. When we fetched him, we learnt about all the pugs out there that need homes. We also learnt about the abuse and trauma that some of these dogs go through, so we decided to do our bit and get involved in trying to home more pugs,” she said.

The Singhs are also supporters of the Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT), and this year, food will also be donated to this organisation.

“We encourage residents to bring along their families to witness this spectacular display and to donate something to Pug Rescue SA if they’re able to. The children love it, and it’s really a breathtaking sight at night,” she said.
