Donate your pre-loved jungle gyms to Domino Foundation

Many of the children are not prepared for the demands of Grade R as they haven’t sufficiently developed their gross motor muscles and find it hard to sit upright at a desk for any length of time doing table-work.

IF you have a pre-loved jungle gym which your children have grown out of, consider donating it to The Domino Foundation who will put it to good use at one of their 60 early childhood development centres throughout Durban.

“We have 60 Early Childhood Development crèches we work with. Most are very under-resourced in playground equipment.  Outdoor play equipment is vital to support gross motor development of young children,” said Nicky Walton, Education Co-ordinator with The Domino Foundation.

A family from Durban, Ben and Sam Hands, recently donated their children’s jungle gym to the foundation and Walton had in mind just the right new home for the gift.

“One of our ECD programme’s field workers, Happiness Zulu, is a budding entrepreneur and has recently ventured out as owner of Luminjalo Crèche in Amaoti. She understands the value of equipment like this and will ensure her staff see the pre-schoolers make full use of it.”

The Hands has put out a challenge to other families with abandoned playground equipment in good condition needing happy little people to clamber on it.

“The best news would be if all of the crèches Domino works with could boast a refurbished jungle gym. Come on, Durbanites! There are more than 3000 pre-schoolers in these 59 crèches waiting for you to show your generosity!” said the Hands.

Walton invited anyone with a pre-played jungle gym to clean it up and contact her on 031 110 0730 or education@domino.org.za.
