Heroes celebrated at Emergency Services Awareness Day

The event, hosted by the Law Enforcement Foundation, returned after fours years.

RESIDENTS were treated to a number of displays from law enforcement and rescue personnel on Saturday as Crusaders Sports Club played host to the Emergency Services Awareness Day.

The event, hosted by the Law Enforcement Foundation, returned after fours years with the aim of raising awareness of emergency services, as well as giving the community the opportunity to learn more about organisations such as the CPF, security companies, the NSRI and the South African Police Service (SAPS), to name a few.

Organiser Gill Rall said that planning for the event took six months to coordinate with various role-players.

“The event was a resounding success, and the turnout was even more incredible. It was an amazing day. As organisers, we worked so hard for many months, possibly the hardest since we started in 2015 to make the Emergency Services Awareness Day what it was. People came from as far as Howick, which was incredible. We had three helicopters on the day in one of the displays, with the SAPS Airwing and Netcare helicopters which stole the show with their display. Hearing all the rave reviews from residents and the community really makes it all worth it.

“Having every role-player there working together as one team and seeing the kiddies’ faces light up when they honoured their heroes was awesome. We wanted everyone to see what it means to serve our community. The community got a chance to interact with the fire department, the search and rescue crews and others. I feel that the reenactment of each mock display while the situation of each scenario is being described really helped the community with a better understanding of what goes on. This was six months of planning and sleepless nights, but it was worth every hour,” Rall said.
