Gourmet food and wine dinner for charity

FOOD 4 Thought KZN will hold it’s next fundraising Gourmet Food & Wine Dinner in The Pearl Room at The Oyster Box on Monday 9 September.

All proceeds from the dinner will go towards the work of Umthombo, a Durban-based organisation that empowers street children by providing alternatives to street life. The Oyster Box is a founder member of Food 4 Thought along with 10 other leading Durban restaurants.

The five-course paired menu, at R650 per person, including wine, has been exclusively created by The Oyster Box’s Executive Chef, Kevin Joseph. For starters, a Chilled Oyster and Passion Fruit Jelly with Lavender shards of sugar, will be accompanied by a Kleine Zalze Barrel Fermented Chenin Blanc; a delicious second course of Foie Gras Parfait with Basil Gelatin, Quail-scented Jelly and Langoustine Cream, is matched with a Sumaridge Pinot Noir.

Paired with a Rupert and Rothschild Classique, the main course of Loin of Venison, Oxtail and Herb Crust, Candied Beetroot and Cauliflower Puree, is the prelude to the exquisite Croquembouche and Brule Tower, Cognac Ice Cream and Candy Floss dessert. Live music will be provided by talented Durban musician, Wallace Nock.

Food 4 Thought KZN is a community of top restaurants and ‘good food’ lovers. Through the contributions of diners, who have the option to add one per cent to their bills when dining in participating restaurants, the work of Umthombo can be carried out.
