Fun event ahead for fur friends and families in Durban North

The Canine Carnival promises to be an exciting event for people of all ages, with tons of stalls to buy from, live entertainment from Glo Mapenzi and Angie Kittle, a craft beer and gin garden, amazing food vendors and fantastic games for the children and adults.

TWO animal rescue organisations in Durban have joined forces to host a family-orientated fundraiser, the Canine Carnival, that promises to be fun for humans and their fur families and friends.

Nicole Jack, chairperson for SerendiPitty Rescue, and Kerry Janke, director of SAFE, said both organisations have a common goal, which is to rescue and rehome as many animals as they can, but this comes at a huge cost.

SerendiPitty primarily focuses on pit bulls, while SAFE rescues all dog breeds.

“Organisations like SerendiPitty Rescue and SAFE are struggling to keep their doors open, so coming together to find ways to pay off vet bills and operating costs is one way of making sure we stay open. We also want to create awareness about the need to help animals in need,” said Janke.

“There are numerous fees involved in rescuing animals, such as kennel fees, vet fees and items that the foster needs to home the animals. Fundraising is a necessity. The funds raised from this event will go towards all the fees mentioned and the general care of the dogs in the rescues,” said Jack.

The Canine Carnival takes place on April 30 at Northlands Girls’ High from 10:00 to 15:00. The school have opened their gates and hearts to host the event on their fields from 10:00 till 15:00.

“Northlands’ Girls High wants to make a difference in the lives of animals in need. Through these community events, awareness campaigns and collaborations, we can all make a difference if we work together,” said Celeste van Dyk, head of charity for the school.

The event will be fun for the whole family, including furry friends, as long as they are social and on a lead.

The entrance fee for the event is R50, and children under 12 enter for free. The first 50 guests (one per family) will receive a goodie bag. There will also be fun activities to take part in, with spot prizes up for grabs.

SANBS will be available on the day for those who would like to donate blood, and CANSA will be present, as well.
