Durban North/Umhlanga CPF monitoring national shutdown developments

The CPF said role-players have contingency plans in place ahead of the national shutdown on March 20.

THE Durban North/Umhlanga CPF has assured residents and the public they are monintoring the situation regarding the national shutdown on Monday, March 20.

The shutdown has been called for by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to demand an end to load-shedding and for President Cyril Ramaphosa to resign.

On Wednesday, EFF leader Julius Malema held a press briefing ahead of the party’s protest action to assure essential workers and businesses that they would not be impacted and that protests would remain peaceful.

Public relations officer for the Durban North/Umhlanga CPF, Darryl Oliver, said all key role-players have contingency plans, and teams have been placed on high alert.

“They have been placed on high alert in order to respond swiftly and effectively, should the need arise. We understand some residents may feel the need to stock up on necessities; in which case we urge you to do so in a responsible and calm manner. We request that residents do not share or take notice of unverified messages and voice notes but rather rely on their relevant CPF structures and/or other verified sources of information.

Meanwhile, eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said that the leadership of Durban has been assured by the Economic Freedom Fighters that the shutdown will be peaceful and there will be no disruptions.

He added that all municipal services will be available as employees are expected to report for duty.
