Friday, February 24

Glenwood Presbyterian Church will host their night market on Friday, February 24, from 17:00 – 20:00. Organisers have prepared for all weather, and the fair will continue come rain or shine. Visitors to the market can enjoy live music while browsing the stalls. Crafts, sweet treats, breyani and hamburgers will be on sale alongside a coffee shop. Yellowwood Park Sports Club hosts social darts with a twist every Friday evening from 18:30 for 19:00. Social darts is about an two hour fun game that anyone can play. The rules change every week and players are seeded and/ or handicapped depending on experience. There are various prizes up for grabs and raffle tickets on sale. Saturday, February 25

The Kloof Tennis Club will be hosting its first Farmer’s Market on Saturday, February 25, from 07:00 to 13:00.

This market is an authentic Farmer’s Market offering fresh veggies, fruits, various meats, honey, cheeses and homemade goods and crafts. There will be various food stalls, coffee shops and baked goods.

The Kloof Tennis Club is situated in the leafy suburb of Kloof, bordering the Kloof Nature Conservation area at the address of 55 Klooflands Road.

This market is an authentic Farmer’s Market offering fresh veggies, fruits, various meats, honey, cheeses and homemade goods and crafts.

The Merewent Athletic Club will host a breakfast run, sponsored by The Limco Group, on February 25, at the Dubhri Road Sports Grounds. Entry is free. Registration will commence at 05:30. The breakfast run will begin at 06:00. Refreshments will be served. Registration for the club for 2023 will also be held on February 25. For more information, contact Lenny Govender on 083 659 2537.

Merewent Cheshire Home urges the community to support their mini flea market fundraiser set to take place at the home situated at the Corner Eksteen and Tifflin roads in Wentworth on February 25, starting at 09:00 until late.
Some of the activities will include a beer and tea garden, a DJ and other entertainment, as well as a variety of stalls offering food, clothing, toys, cutlery, crockery, new and second hand appliances and furniture, among items on sale.
Winnie Mkhize, the manager of the home, said proceeds from the fundraiser will assist in improving the lives of people with disabilities living at the home.

Open Air School invites the community to enjoy an evening of live music on Saturday, February 25 from 17:00 until 22:00.

The event will be in a dinner-theatre format, and audiences can bring a picnic basket along to enjoy during the show – with food, snacks and beverages. Tickets are available for purchase for R100 tickets at the school. The event also serves to celebrate the school’s 102nd birthday and raise funds – all proceeds will go toward the running costs of the school.

Ticket holders also stand the chance of winning one of the prizes up for grabs, including a R500 voucher for the Market Restaurant, spa vouchers and raffles. The evening’s line-up includes In Deep, Shanell De Paul and a special performance by the Open Air School choir. Audiences can expect to hear a variety of music from pop to RnB and jazz. Visit the fun-filled New Time Market in The Square at the Toti CBD every Saturday, from 09:00 to 15:00 and every last Friday of the month from 17:00 to 21:00.
Entry is free. The aim of the market, organised by Wanderers Haven and Mug ‘n Dine, is to support small businesses, upgrade the town and help build a place of safety for those in need. The day includes entertainment for the children, cake and coffee stands, food stalls, arts and crafts, jewellery and much more.

Saturday, February 25, and Sunday, February 26

The Cancer Association of South Africa’s (CANSA) annual Shavathon fundraising event takes place at various shopping centres across South Africa this weekend (February 25 and 26).

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Shavathon is one of the highlights on the CANSA calendar, bringing families, friends and colleagues together in solidarity with cancer survivors.

To shave or spray on a variety of colours requires a donation fee of only R50 per adult and R25 for children under 12 years, and all funds raised go directly towards providing CANSA’s education and screening initiatives as well as towards the care and support services for cancer patients and loved ones.

Stencils are available to add fun designs when spraying hair, and donations of hair can be made towards making a wig for cancer survivors. The colour spray is safe to use, being made of vegetable dye, and comes out when washing hair. A limited-edition certificate of honour will be given to those who make hair donations of 25cm or longer.

The South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) will host a toad and frog mini-exhibition outside the Dangerous Creatures Reptile House in the uShaka Village Walk on Saturday, February 25, and Sunday, February 26.

The exhibition, which is free to the public, will be open from 09:00 to 16:00 on both days and will highlight the diversity of frog species found in South Africa.

Senior herpetologist at Dangerous Creatures Lesley Labuschagne said the staff are looking forward to sharing information on what we can all do to ensure that South Africa remains an ideal home to these very important amphibians.

Sunday, February 26

The next KZN Vegan Country Food and Craft Market takes place on Sunday, February 26. The market is a fully vegan market held on the last Sunday of the month at Roseway Waldorf School on Alverstone Road in Hillcrest. There is live music, delicious food and interesting stalls.

The vegan market takes place on Sunday, February 25.

From now until June 4

If the sounds of Elton John, Cher, Tina Turner, Meatloaf and Michael Jackson are what get your feet tapping and waist moving, Simply The Best is the show for you.

The show is currently on at The Barnyard Theatre at Suncoast until June 4 and pays tribute to some of these greatest musical icons of all time.

The show runs from Thursdays to Sundays with a buy-one-get-one-free special on Thursdays. On Sundays, pensioners get 50% off, and two children under 12 can watch for free per paying adult.

Tickets cost R195. The Thursday to Saturday shows are at 19:00, and Sundays are at 14:00.
