The centre itself is situated in Musgrave while several programmes are run from Durban North.
Since reopening about six weeks ago, the trust has been met with an unprecedented number of enrolment enquiries, care complaints and requests for support services.

“Our core function is to provide early intervention, care and support for visually impaired children from birth to five years.

“In line with this core mission, we have taken the decision to relaunch our early childhood development [ECD] project. The short-term aim is to make quality ECD services accessible to the visually impaired; thereafter, our long-term goal is to provide the highest level of care and education to the visually impaired community irrespective of their socio-economic challenges,” said Carron Strachan, co-founder of the Bright Eyes Trust and centre co-ordinator.

“Our visually impaired children are at risk, and this problem can no longer be ignored. We invite you to come and learn about this crisis from the team members on the frontline,” she said.

A meeting takes place at 135 Bellevue Road, Durban, on Wednesday, March 1, from 09:00 until midday.

Strachan will be joined by Cathryn Aylett, project co-ordinator and educator, and Sharon Sweet, preschool programme principal and early intervention programme volunteer.
