Grade One learners show their excitement on their first day of school.

THE 2023 academic school year for learners across the coastal parts of KZN commenced today with very few tears and plenty of smiles.

Today, the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga, joined MEC of Education Mbali Frazer in monitoring the opening of schools in KwaZulu-Natal as coastal schools welcomed learners for the 2023 school year.

Northglen News visited Our Lady of Fatima where learners had the opportunity to take a photo with their parents.

School principal Dee Horsfall said the first day back ran smoothly.

“There were some nerves this morning but all our Grade Ones settled really well. We had a bell-ringing ceremony at the end of the day to officially welcome them to our school. We held an orientation day last year for our Grades Ones to meet their teachers so there were virtually no tears today as all our learners were ready for their first day,” she said.
