PACT Christmas Extravaganza to aid furry friends

The Christmas Extravaganza comprised of a flea market, food stalls, prizes to be won, a dog adoption corner, as well as a movie and picnic night; with the proceeds from the day set to go towards taking care of the dogs and cats.

HUNDREDS of patrons flocked to the North Durban Lions Club in support of the Christmas Extravaganza hosted by The Phoenix Animal Care & Treatment (PACT) on Saturday, December 10.

Held to raise funds for the caring and treating of abandoned dogs and cats, the event was broken down into different segments, namely, a flea market, food stalls, prizes to be won, a dog adoption corner, as well as a movie and picnic night.

PACT founder and fellow animal rescuer Neeri Naidoo said the core focus of the event was to rehome animals.

“We are currently faced with a huge dilemma that we can’t rescue another animal, and so we decided to have an event where ‘we home one so we can help one’. Every animal we get to home means we can save another dog or another cat off of the streets. Kennels are so full, especially with people just dumping dogs.

“This is our first big event after Covid, so we are excited about the people that have come by to show their support. We also incorporated a movie night just so people can cool off and enjoy their time, and it is a family-oriented movie. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards our kennel fees and our high vet bills,” said Neeri.

Neeri added that people need to realise the impact that they are making in the world when choosing to adopt or foster an animal.

“You may think that it’s just another dog, but you are changing the life of an animal tremendously. I think people don’t give themselves enough credit.

“You are creating such a rippling effect of kindness and social change that your role is immeasurable in the rescuing of animals, and in doing so, you actually change the mindsets of your children and their children; before you know it, you’re making the world a better place.

“Each of our animals are treated with the utmost care and respect. We do an application form, a home inspection and then an adoption fee is charged, and it is charged to make sure that you can afford a pet and also that the pet we are giving you is healthy. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, dewormed, micro-chipped and sterilised.
