North Durban Lions Club to host free diabetes screening

ANNUALLY, in November, the globe marks World Diabetes Day in an effort to highlight the impact diabetes has on those living with the disease, to raise awareness and to find ways to promote universal health coverage for affordable and equitable access to diabetes prevention.
It is in this vein that the North Durban Lions Club will host a free diabetes screening at the Golden Hours Family Market on Sunday, November 13.
Avril Hobbs from the club said, while the screening is a great way to raise awareness, it was also about putting community service at the heart of what they do.

“This screening is open to anyone, and of course, the significance is November is diabetes month and World Diabetes Day is on November 14. For the North Durban Lions Club, we have five pillar projects, and diabetes awareness is one of them. In addition to the screening, we will also have brochures and tips on how to prevent diabetes. We really encourage the community to come out and get screened. There is also the Golden Hours Market to look forward to,” Hobbs said.
The screening runs from 10:00 to 13:00.
According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), new figures from the IDF Diabetes Atlas revealed that 537 million adults around the world are living with diabetes.
