Don’t spread misinformation with old WhatsApp messages, urges CPF

The message relates to an incident from last year’s unrest in KZN.

THE Durban North/uMhlanga CPF have slammed the forwarding of an old message appearing on various neighbourhood watch and residential WhatsApp groups that pertains to last year’s unrest.

The message relates to several Pharmed vehicles stolen from Riverhorse Valley in July 2021.

The message reads: “Please be advised that 10 Pharmed vehicles have been stolen from Riverhorse, and they are trying to gain access into estates and complexes, pretending to be delivering medication.”

Darryl Oliver, public relations officer for the CPF, said that while the story behind the message is true, the incident occurred in 2021.

“We strongly urge residents to refrain from sharing this message, and please relay this back to those sending it. This is false and should not be shared or forwarded to other groups. Group admins are urged to utilise the ‘Delete for everyone’ function on WhatsApp to ensure the message isn’t copied and forwarded on,” Oliver said.
