eThekwini Municipality’s grass-cutting cycle begins

The City says the work will be carried out by the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit.

THE eThekwini Municipality said it will implement its grass-cutting cycle from Monday, September 26 to October 28 in an effort to promote a clean and well-maintained city.

Municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela said the work will be carried out by the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit.

“A cycle lasts an average of five weeks, and this is mainly dependent on conducive weather conditions. This means if it rains, the grass-cutting programme cannot be implemented, and this prolongs a cycle,” he said.

Head of Parks, Recreation and Culture, Dr Simphiwe Ndlovu, said the programme is crucial in addressing the degradation of environmental assets which are severely under pressure.

He said the cycle that is starting tomorrow is one of eight cycles that will be implemented until July 2023.

“This is one of the municipality’s strategies to address the dilapidation of the city’s natural resources which has impacted negatively on the economy, environment and the well-being of residents,” said Ndlovu.

Mayisela added the scope of work would not include the M4, M7, M13 and M19 as they are maintained by the Department of Transport.
