Two nabbed in separate north Durban theft incidents

Both suspects were taken into custody by Greenwood Park police.

PRIVATE security companies have had their hands full in the last two weeks as opportunistic criminals are on the prowl.

Two suspects linked to separate theft incidents in Red Hill and Avoca were recently arrested by Marshall Security and Swift Private Security.

In the most recent incident, a suspect was arrested on Monday afternoon after he was caught red-handed cutting a water meter from a home on Mogul Crescent in Avoca.

“We were advised by a resident that a thief was attempting to steal a water meter, and when our officers arrived on scene, they noticed the suspect cutting the water meter off the property,” said Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall.  “The suspect was in possession of copper, tools and a knife. The suspect was handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS.”

“In an incident last week Thursday, members of Marshall Security were called out to a vacant house in Red Hill where a thief was stealing metal sheeting,” explained spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“At approximately 21:20, we were alerted to a burglary in progress. When our officers arrived, a suspect was spotted stealing metal sheetings from the vacant house. The thief was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS and charged with housebreaking and theft. He is known in the area and has been arrested before for similar cases,” Powell said.
