Comic Con Africa debut beckons for Durban North’s Deadpool

Deadpool says he is looking forward to meeting fellow cosplayers at this year’s Comic Con Africa.

DURBAN North’s Deadpool has been a hit wherever he goes and the positive vibes he has been spreading in the area are about to be unleashed on pop-culture fans attending Comic Con Africa.

The 19-year-old cosplayer said his love for the character began years ago when he cosplayed as Deadpool for Halloween.

“It takes me roughly five to 10 minutes to get dressed. Obviously it’s nothing as fast as Superman but when I did cosplay, it was an instant hit to the north Durban community. I’ve had tons and tons of photos from fans. I sometimes feel adults love it more than the kids. People are filled with joy, happiness and laughter when I’m around,” he said.

It is that feeling that the young cosplayer is aiming to bring to the attendees of this year’s Comic Con.

“Honestly, Comic Con Africa brings shivers and chills to my spine. I can’t wait to see all the cosplayers, the celebrities, the merchandise and of course, the food. I’m super excited to have this awesome dream come true moment to be able to attend my first Comic Con. I’m hoping to spread positivity, take some awesome pics and maybe even buy a few collectibles,” he said.

Deadpool has also made a number of friends in the cosplay community, including Sunningdale’s Spider-Man, Durban’s Gwen Stacy (Spider-Girl) and Miles Morales’ Spider-Man.

The comic book character’s battle with cancer has also inspired the local resident to give back and raise awareness on all types of cancer.

“The awesome thing about being Deadpool is it suits my character almost perfectly. From my impractical jokes to my memory of the movie lines. Deadpool also portrays a person battling cancer. I lost a good friend to cancer and it is something I’m passionate about raising awareness on. No matter what the ages of those affected are, I just want to be there for cancer patients. I want to do everything I can to make them happy,” he said.
