Crime awareness day to take place in Greenwood Park

Naidoo added that the newly revived Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum SAPS Youth Desk will also be at the event.

THE Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum (CPF), together with Greenwood Park SAPS, will host a crime prevention awareness day on Saturday, August 13 at Blackburn Road grounds from 09:00 to 14:00.

Charles Naidoo, chairman of the CPF, said the event was aimed at building relationships between the various communities and law enforcement.

The Greenwood Park SAPS, various security companies, the fire department and the like will be present at the event.

“We want the community, SAPS, security companies and rescue teams to meet and greet. We also want to bridge the gap between the informal and formal communities and SAPS. We want to create structures within each community so they can get involved in fighting crime,” said Naidoo.

“Representatives from these companies and departments will re-enact real-life scenarios and put on a demonstration of how they react in those particular situations,” he said.

“It’s also a great event to socialise, and we encourage the community to bring their family and friends and see what it’s all about,” said the chairman.

Naidoo added that the newly revived Greenwood Park Community Policing Forum SAPS Youth Desk will also be at the event.

“The forum believes that if issues are addressed from a young age, and if the youth get involved in the CPF from a young age, issues affecting this age group may be resolved earlier rather than later,” said Naidoo.

“The Greenwood Park CPF is such a diverse forum, but it’s our diversity that brings us together,” he added.
Food stalls and a play area will also be available on the day. The event is free to the public.
