Cow entrails cause sewage blockage in Kenville
Residents had raised the alarm over several sewage overflows on the residential road since June this year, which they say has been a health hazard.
MUNICIPAL workers attempting to clear a sewerage blockage, on Wembley Road in Kenville last week, made a startling discovery of cow entrails, which have been the cause of months of untold misery for residents.

Anil Beekrum, chairman of Kenville/Sea Cow Lake Ratepayers’ Association, said in recent months, both areas had been beset by sewage leaks.

“We are grateful this issue has been sorted out, and we appreciate the municipality for doing their best to assist us. In this case, on Wembley Road, the cow entrails were found at the bottom of the line which was causing the sewage to back up farther and farther on the road. We aren’t sure where the entrails came from either. In total, there were about three manholes overflowing with raw sewage due to this blockage.
“We have cautioned residents and landlords not to flush or put foreign items in the sewerage systems. On the issue of sewage leaks, we’ve had a number of issues on Temple Road, Smithfield Road, Kenford Road and Sea Cow Lake Road, and we suspect blockages are the causes,” he said.
Beekrum said he hoped the Parks Department will attend to the overgrown bushes blocking the pedestrian walkway.
The eThekwini Municipality did not provide comment by the time of going to print.
