New library set for Briardene Primary School

It is all part of leaving a legacy at the school, explained school principal, Lenny Bowes.

LIBRARIES are gateways to knowledge and education, and for Briardene Primary School principal, Lenny Bowes, this rings true.

Bowes, who has served as school principal for the past 22 years, said construction of the school’s first-ever library is planned to be completed by the end of July.

It is all part of leaving a legacy at the school, explained Bowes as he approaches his retirement.

Recently, the school received their first mobile library through the late Professor Yusuf Karodia’s Million Books Campaign.

Bowes said the plan is to use the 900 books donated to fill the library.

“This is a dream come true of having our first-ever library. We have more than 1 000 learners at the school, and this was sorely needed. Construction work is continuing to complete the structure as our collective dream is being realised.

“In this way, we can enhance literacy among our learners and take our country forward. We hope it will be a vehicle of change for our youngsters in years to come. We would like to thank all those involved who have made this possible,” he said.
